Spend the 2010 Summer of STEM with your friends at the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, Millersville University, the School District of Lancaster, Penn State - the Lancaster Center, the North Museum of Natural History and Science, the Lancaster Science Factory, the IU13, the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology and the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board who are coordinating their summer day camp schedules for young people in grades K - 12.
While camps vary in length, daily schedule, location, cost, and grade levels, they all have the same purpose...preparing our children for the 21st century workplace where science, technology, engineering, and math preparation is essential for Gold Collar occupations.
PENNSTATE - The Lancaster Center The Animal ABC's Ages 11-13 Do you love animals? Would you like to work with animals as a career? Join us at Animal ABC's Day Camp to learn about animal attributes, behavior and careers. We will explore different animals and jobs within the animal care industry. Participants will learn about animal science, traits and behavior. Please bring a packed lunch. June 29-July 1, 9: a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Fee: $125
Exploring the WWW. Water, Woods, and Wildlife Ages 11-13 July 13-July 15, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Do you love spending time outside? Are you interested in the forests and wildlife of Pennsylvania? This three day camp explores the wonders of the waters, woods and wildlife of PA. Learning about forest stewardship, water conservation and wildlife management is made fun through hands on activities and exciting instructors working in the industry that show you the fun parts of their jobs. Did we mention we're outside and in the water! Come on out, and learn the WWW and how being a steward to your natural world can be fun and rewarding. Please bring a packed lunch. Fee: $125
Take a Dive Ages 7-11 Dive into the world of Marine Biology and Oceanography. Half day campers will dissect a real shark, participate in a fishermans's challenge, bring to life genuine TriassicTriops, examine the anatomy of a fish and learn the ancient technique of gyotaku or "fish rubbing", come fact to facewith some unique sea creatures such as squid and learn to survive at sea with a homemade solar sill. Full day campers will continue the fun as we conduct a whale adatation lab, examine "weird wonders of the sea", create a kelp forest and make your own submarine! Jump right in for an underwater sea adventure. Fee: Half day $175. Full day $295
Jr. Discoverers Ages 4-6 August 2-6, Half Day Only, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. A week of fabulous hands on fun...Get elbow deep in botany, oceanography, and space. Let's bug out as we investigate our 6 legged friends. We'll be outta this world with different themes every day. HARRISBURG UNIVERSITY of Science and Technology High School Gaming Academy The intensive three-week summer commuter program is open to students entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade with a passion for video games and exposes students to career opportunities in the entertainment industry. Lego Robotics Programming (CISC 100) Lego robotics is a hands-on building block for learning computer programming where students learn various proof-of-concept applications. NORTH MUSEUM Meeting Scientists and New Technology Face to Face Biotechnology- July 12-16 We are planning visits to labs at F&M, Johns Hopkins, and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology as part of a five day exploration. Alternative Energy Solutions- August 2-6 We will collaborate with Millersville University, Exelon Nuclear, F&M College, and local private businesses involved in making energy cleaner and greener. Each camp has a maximum enrollment of 12 students ages 11-14. Fee: $150 for the week including field trips. Camp hours are 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Each camp includes hands on activities. LANCASTER SCIENCE FACTORY SUMMER CAMP 2010 The factory is running a variety of weeklong half day camps on topics in science and technology. Camps designed for ages 6-9 and 10-13. FUTURE PLANNING CENTER This free camp is designed to help fifth grade students prepare for future success and spend time exploring STEM careers and making fun projects. LANCASTER COUNTY CAREER & TECHNOLOGY CENTER Exploring Careers in STEM & Renewable Energy Dates & Times: June 21-25, 2010 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Fee: $150.00 with lunch, and transportation from central locations in the country and career projects included. Using state-of-the-art labs at the LCCTC campuses, students will explore careers that connect to high priority occupations in Lancaster County. MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY Science, Technology & Me This event is a one day hands on activity to promote girls career awareness in the areas of science and technology. The program will be held at Millersville University for girls in grades 6-10.
