LCWDB Open House: Strengthening Connections and Celebrating Workforce Development Month

On September 12th, the Lancaster County Workforce Development Board (LCWDB) had the pleasure of welcoming guests from various industries to our Open House event. Previously known primarily within workforce development organizations, LCWDB is now expanding its outreach to the broader community. The Open House provided an excellent opportunity to introduce new customers and potential business partners to the work we do, fostering connections that could lead to long-lasting relationships.

During the event, guests received valuable information about our workforce development initiatives, including available funding opportunities for businesses interested in enhancing the competitiveness of their teams. This information showed our commitment to not only supporting individuals in their career pursuits but also helping businesses thrive through strategic workforce development.

The Open House coincided with PA CareerLink® Lancaster County’s “CareerLink® Day,” both events celebrating Workforce Development Month. While our Open House attracted representatives from community-based organizations and businesses, CareerLink® Day focused on serving job seekers with employment opportunities and services. Together, the events showcased the depth and range of workforce development efforts in Lancaster County.

CareerLink® Day welcomed 117 individuals and 18 partners who provided assistance with job applications, job searches, and unemployment claims. The event’s success was highlighted by the numerous compliments we received from attendees, including leadership from the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Association (PWDA) and the Bureau of Workforce Partnership and Operations (BWPO).

Melissa Stevenson from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry shared: “Unemployment was able to help 30 claimants on-site and even managed to release a claimant’s payments that had been held for three months. I was very proud of that. The claimant was extremely thankful that we were there, so thanks again—I really appreciate it.”

The LCWDB is excited about the potential these events have sparked and remains committed to reaching more people, increasing awareness of workforce development programs, and supporting the growth of businesses and the community as a whole.
