The latest County Workforce profile indicates 400 people joined the workforce in July, although that is still more than 5,000 less workers who were in the labor pool a year ago. The unemployment rate (percentage of the total labor force that is unemployed but actively seeking employment and willing to work) however has remained relatively steady in the last quarter, reported at 4.7% in July, a stark contrast from a year ago when the rate was 10.6% and included 30,000 unemployed workers. Jobs continue to grow in Lancaster, noting a 3.5% increase over the year (+8,300) and up .5% over the month.
