Lancaster County Center of Excellence in Packaging Operations

In Lancaster County and most of south central and southeastern PA, southern NJ, and northern DE, packaging is a major enabling technology that drives the food, pharmaceutical, and medical device manufacturing industries. These end users make substantial use of a packaging supply chain which is also firmly established in the region.

Along with its partners in the Berks and the Southcentral Workforce Investment Areas, Lancaster County received a Regional Innovation Grant from the US Department of Labor to study the packaging supply chain, to further develop the articulations between levels of mechatronics education programs, to study the need for radio frequency identification in the industry, and to determine the capacity of area machine-builders to service the needs of the packaging industry for machinery.
