Lancaster: More than 600 Lancaster County residents who may have lost their jobs, who cannot afford health insurance, who are having trouble paying household bills, or who may have just needed to talk with someone about their situation came to Liberty Place on Wednesday, May 6, to find out what resources are available from government, community and faith-based organizations, and schools in these current economic hard times.

Sponsored by the PA CareerLink of Lancaster County and the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board, co-sponsors include the County of Lancaster, the City of Lancaster, United Way of Lancaster, the Lancaster County Community Foundation, the Community Action Program of Lancaster County, the Lancaster County Council of Churches, and WGAL-TV as well as the PA Department of Labor and Industry, the PA Insurance Department, and the PA Department of Public Welfare, more than 70 organizations participated in the event.

In addition to the exhibit area, seven informational programs on topics including Getting Ready to Go Back to Work: Career Goals, the Career Readiness Certificate, and Upgrading Skills; Job Finding Tips: Resumes, Interviewing, Job Search; Accessing Stimulus Funding for Training: Adults and Young People; Internet Resources for Surviving Hard Times; Good Loans = Happy Homes: Keeping Your Home Safe from Foreclosure; Effective Programs to Improve Home Energy Efficiency; and What You Need to Know about Unemployment Insurance were offered during the day.
